Sample MSR Forensic Memorandum
Illustrative work product based entirely on published MSR research. Not a client engagement.
Every fact in this memorandum is drawn from MSR’s published case “The BNB 5-minute wallet: reconstructed to the cent” (MSR-CASE-03). It re-presents that public finding in the section structure MSR delivers for a commissioned engagement; no new analysis, evidence, or number is introduced here. This is a format sample, not a new investigation.
Executive Finding
Confirmed realized profit ($921,178.80 including rebates), across a single 3.1-hour session in Polymarket’s five-minute “BNB Up or Down” quick markets. The claimed 23-of-24 win rate does not hold — the verified record is 21 of 24 (87.5%). The mechanism was a late-window timing strategy against a quote that did not reprice during the observed session, plus one complementary-pair arbitrage that occurred once — not the directional market-reading the original claim implied.
Question Presented
Did a wallet that turned roughly $449K into a claimed ~$917K profit trading Polymarket’s five-minute BNB markets do so through skillful directional trading, and does the claimed 23-of-24 win rate hold against the venue’s own trade record?
Scope / Universe
One wallet (0x7597…4421). A single 3.1-hour session — July 17, 2026, 09:12–12:19 UTC. 24 of 39 consecutive five-minute “BNB Up or Down” quick markets on Polymarket. This session is the wallet’s entire recorded trading history on the venue.
Records Examined
- 139 buy fills and zero sell fills, reconstructed from the wallet’s on-chain activity, plus 21 redemptions and 1 merge.
- Each of the 24 markets’ own quote-acceptance timestamp, from Polymarket’s public market metadata.
- Binance spot BNB/USD price history for the same windows.
- The Chainlink BNB/USD data stream Polymarket uses to resolve these markets.
Reconstruction
Cash deployed: $449,469.69 across 139 buy fills. Cash returned: $1,366,781.22 from 21 redemptions and 1 merge. Rebates: $3,867.27 in maker/taker rebates settled after the session. Net realized: $921,178.80 including rebates — $917,311.53 excluding them, the figure that ties to the viral claim to within $311.53.
Economic Analysis
Every fill in a given market, on a given side, printed at an identical price to four decimal places regardless of size. Each market’s own quote-acceptance timestamp predates that market’s window opening by 23.8–23.9 hours, in every one of the 24 markets. The median fill landed 104 seconds before its market closed; 48.2% of fills had 90 seconds or less left on a 300-second clock, and among that late-window group, 79.7% of the dollars bought the side BNB’s own spot price had already moved toward. In one market, the wallet bought both the Up and Down side at $0.20 each — a complementary pair worth $1.00 at settlement regardless of outcome — for a locked-in +$26,069.03.
Alternative Explanations Tested
- Manipulation. Neither evidenced nor excluded — the decisive price moves were statistically indistinguishable from the market’s ordinary noise.
- Genuine directional skill. Tested against the late-window timing pattern and the quote that did not reprice during the observed session, and rejected as the primary mechanism.
- A resolution-source discrepancy. 2 of 24 windows resolved opposite to the direction Binance’s own spot price had moved — consistent with Polymarket’s Chainlink resolution feed and Binance spot disagreeing at the tick, on sub-1.3-basis-point moves.
Finding
Real profit, mischaracterized mechanism.
The wallet’s $917K realized profit is confirmed. Its win-rate claim is not: the verified record is 21 of 24 (87.5%), not 23 of 24 (~96%); no reading of the published fills reaches 23. The mechanism is a late-window timing strategy against a quote that did not reprice during the observed session, plus one complementary-pair arbitrage that occurred once — not the directional market-reading the original claim implied.
What the Evidence Establishes
- The $917,311.53 realized-profit figure, to within $311.53 of the viral claim.
- The corrected 21-of-24 (87.5%) win rate.
- That the pricing behavior behind the profit is a timing/quote-staleness pattern plus one arbitrage, not repeated directional calls.
- That 2 of 24 resolutions diverged from Binance spot direction, consistent with the venue’s Chainlink-vs-Binance resolution design.
What the Evidence Does Not Establish
- Manipulation — neither evidenced nor excluded.
- Whether the pricing behavior still exists today — this reconstruction covers one historical session only.
- Copyability — not established; the wallet has not traded again since, for reasons the record does not show.
Limitations
Two non-material artifact discrepancies between the published case page and its machine-readable ledger remain open, logged as U13 and U14 in MSR’s public unreconciled-items register; neither affects the dollar reconciliation, the 21-of-24 result, or the finding above. This memorandum covers a single historical trading session and does not extend to any other wallet, market, or time period.

Methodology Reference
This reconstruction follows MSR’s standard, disclosed method — see Methodology. Independent reconstruction runs from on-chain and public venue data; the wallet’s own fills, not a self-reported figure, are the basis for every number above.
